The Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and Their Disposal (1989) is a global international treaty on hazardous and other wastes. It sets rules for controlling the transboundary movements and disposal of hazardous and other wastes. This compilation of country fact sheets for the year 2000 contains information on country activities related to hazardous wastes and other waste substances. The fact sheets cover information such as definitions of hazardous wastes, restrictions on transboundary movements, bilateral, multilateral and regional agreements, and technical assistance and training available. Information is presented in a concise manner to facilitate effective implementation of the Convention in participating countries.
